C. Ray Mitchell, ECS Founder
"The principle of our success does not deal with policies or formulas but in the good fortune that all of us have felt in our fair and harmonious dealings with each other."
"All of the Douglas-Eaton people, in a sense, are pioneers. They stand squarely on their own two legs and assume the responsibility of a job. Each of them takes pride in their function on the Douglas-Eaton team."
"It is the philosophy here at Eaton that nothing counts but people... creating an even higher concept of responsibility to our customers."
"We are anxious and eager to earn our keep by stimulating a well-paced confidence in our customers by our principle of business."
October 1944
A well-known furniture man from Muncie, IN named Mr. C. Ray Mitchell along with James M. Fisher and H. Max Miller formed a partnership in October 1944 known as "The Hassock Factory". They began in an abandoned pool hall located in the Armstrong building on West Harris Street and outgrew this building several times within the first year of business as a number of buildings in the area housed their stock.
